Echocardiography
What Kind of Research is This?
This is the study on the monitor screen and recording on magnetic tape images of the heart obtained by ultrasound.
Why?
This study provides information about the size, structure and movement of all parts of the heart (its chambers, walls, valves), as well as the nature and speed of blood flow in the heart and large vessels. Echocardiography makes it possible to detect an increase in the chambers and walls of the heart, violations of the processes of its contraction and relaxation, valve lesions and heart defects, to assess the pumping function of the heart. We have already discussed with you the importance of detecting left ventricular hypertrophy in the study of electrocardiogram. Echocardiography will give the most accurate answer about the presence of hypertrophy, and even allows you to calculate the mass of the left ventricle of the heart, which is important for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.
What will Happen?
You will be asked to strip to the waist and lie down on the couch. A special gel will be applied to the skin of the chest. The study is done using a sensor that will be pressed against your chest with little pressure. The study takes an average of 15 to 45 minutes.
Is it Safe?
Ultrasonic vibrations are not dangerous for humans, so echocardiography is a completely safe study. The only inconveniences may be a light pressure sensor and applying a cool gel on the skin.
How to Prepare for the Study?
It is necessary to have a towel to wipe the gel.
